On Wednesday morning, December 13, I woke to the news that former U.S. attorney, Doug Jones beat former Alabama chief justice, Roy Moore in the 2017 Alabama senate race. I also woke to a country in shock. Before I get too deep into this, can we all just take a second and acknowledge how odd … Continue reading The Alabama Senate Race, The Black Vote and Saving a Sinking Ship Full of Stupid White People

So, the story goes: Time Magazine runs a story documenting decades of sexual assault and harassment allegations against film producer, Harvey Weinstein, the hashtag, "me too" trends on social media showing solidarity for millions of women all over the world who have their own stories to tell, the Mount Olympus of pervy rich white men … Continue reading Men claim they’re afraid of being accused of sexual harassment for saying “hi” to women… they lyin’
I'm sure by now everyone has heard the unequivocally astonishing and absolutely unprecedented news: Ben Carson said some dumb shit. In equally alarming news, water is, in fact, wet, the Earth is still round (despite recent fringe pushback on the issue) and Donald Trump's tan appears to render his skin some sort of orange hue. … Continue reading Ben Carson Said Some Dumb Shit, But That’s Really Not The Issue Here
Pseudo intellectualism is nothing new, but in the age of social media, where everyone has a platform, the shallow observations and platitude riddled nonsense of every wannabe Confucius out there has become more accessible to the masses (or at least as far as their followers lists can stretch). Whether it be through memes, Twitter rants, … Continue reading Sexual Assault, False Equivalency and Why Your Meme May Be Stupid
Unless, for the past couple weeks, you've been living under a rock which also lives under a rock, you've come across the harrowing tale of Colin Kaepernik, the 49'ers quarterback who pulled a Rosa Parks during the National Anthem, opening their preseason game, and stayed his black ass in his seat. Yes, in protesting the … Continue reading Political Correctness: How Colin Kaepernik Exposes The Other Side Of The Coin
We need to stop arguing with them because, in the end, they aren't invested like we are. They aren't paying attention to these stories out of fear for their lives and the lives of their children and spouses, they are only tuned in out of black and brown contempt. This shit is trivial to them. It's all a pissing contest to see who can be the most smug and condescending - and ultimately dismissive. When we debate these issues, we do so passionately - albeit, not always very articulate and often without a whole lot of depth to our arguments - but we always come from a place of genuine frustration, outrage and fear. When most white people debate the very same issues from an opposing stance, they do so from a place of perpetual obtuseness and indifference and their arguments always pretty much boil down to "If it isn't my experience it couldn't possibly be yours."
I'll start with a quick caveat: I'm going to generalize. I'm going to generalize men, I'm going to generalize women and I'm bound to be pretty heteronormative as I can only speak from a perspective based on my own black, cis, heterosexual, male experiences and observations. So let's all just go ahead and institute the … Continue reading 5 Ways Men Are Failed By Their Own Masculinity: One Man’s Testimony
Anti blackness can be a subtle little bitch. Here's an example... So I'm in kind of in a funk right now. I ain't depressed or emotionally scarred for life or no shit like that, recent events in my life have just put me in a temporary fucked up place... I'm a little sad, a little … Continue reading Anti Blackness: A Subtle Little Bitch
I guess it was about a year ago I was put on to the fact that referring to women as "females" was actually regarded by many persons of the female persuasion (HA!!..*ahem*... sorry) as an issue that needed addressing. Now, I like to consider myself a socially aware, privilege recognizing, supremacy dismantling, fighter for the … Continue reading Black Men And Our Struggle… With Our Own Privilege
